Each year, up to five Breakthrough Prizes in Life Sciences are awarded. One prize per year is for work contributing to the understanding of Parkinson’s Disease & Neurodegenerative Disorders. All prizes are individual and should recognize a single person’s contribution to the field of life sciences, with special attention to recent developments. Each laureate receives $3 million.
The Breakthrough Prizes in Life Sciences are funded by a grant from Sergey Brin and Anne Wojcicki's foundation, The Brin Wojcicki Foundation; a grant from Mark Zuckerberg’s fund at the Silicon Valley Community Foundation; a grant from Jack Ma’s Foundation; and a grant from the Milner Foundation.
