For the development, with Eric Katz, of combinatorial Hodge theory leading to the resolution of the log-concavity conjecture of Rota.
Science feels most interesting to me in those moments when it betrays me, when it reveals a hidden path in a place I thought I knew so well, leading away to new places and people, forging new connections, exchanging ideas, until something new is created. I would like to thank all the many people who ever forced me to reexamine what I thought I understood; my teachers and advisors for sharing their ideas and viewpoints; my colleagues for revealing discussions; and my friends and my family for enduring me.
