On the occasion of this prize I take the opportunity to thank the dedication and encouragement of the many teachers with whom I have had the privilege to study; and my country, which supported my long education and later my career, and with great generosity allowed me to do the work that I love to do. I would like to remember especially Rafael Montemayor, my friend and teacher for many years, his warmth and constant support, his beautiful personality, and the many happy days we had doing research together. I also dedicate this prize to the memory of my father, whose love, contagious curiosity, and passion for thinking are still guiding me.
