Rainer Weiss, Special Breakthrough Prize in Fundamental Physics Laureate, Passes Away

The Breakthrough Prize Foundation is saddened by the passing of Rainer Weiss at the age of 92. A Breakthrough Prize and Nobel Prize laureate, Weiss was one of the great experimental physicists of our age. Gravitational wave detectors grew from an idea in his head to a model on his desktop to extraordinary machines that have opened a new window on our Universe. The Breakthrough Prize offers its deep condolences his family, friends and colleagues.
